“Skyline”, 200cm x 40cm. Acrylic on canvas, mixed media. Hand painted base layer, with screenprinted landscape across the piece. No matter what other light source is involved, there really needs to be UV included for it to be truly appreciated. As a result, I’ve not chosen this as my submission for the Manchester Open. It’s …
Acrylic
“Lady Coos”
Acrylic on Canvas, 35cm x 45cm. Created as my “Pride Month 2023” piece, There’s one for each colour of the rainbow, and one with all the colours of the rainbow together. They have a painted acrylic base, stencilled UV active middle and a gold screenprinted top layer. There’s some metallic red in there too.
“St. Helens; Glass and Light”
Acrylic on Canvas, 60cm x 45cm. An idea for the @glass_and_light_ project, this is an augmented view of the King Street roundabout in St. Helens (Merseyside), an otherwise boring and plain circle of grass. Showing surrounding landmarks (St. Helens College, chimneys from various glassworks, a conveyor tower for Pilkington Glass and St. Thomas church) my …
“Tokyo Sunrise (東京 日の出)”
Acrylic on canvas, 200cm x 40cm. My first UV and Glow piece in a long time, the first “completed in a day” piece in a long time, and the brightest piece I’ve done in a long time. Lots of “first in a long time” going on with this one. Shown is a view of (a …
“Norwegian Reflections”
Acrylic on canvas, 184cm x 100cm. I made… Lots of progress today. It helps that I was essentially working with 3 colours, and splashes of 3 others for mixing and blending the sky and water. This piece is based on a random 35mm slide purchased in a set from eBay, which appear to be of …
“Homecoming”
Acrylic on canvas. 185cm X 100cm. A large piece depicting Anchor Mill, Paisley. Based (roughly) on a photo I took following the opening of the Big Art Show where ‘Salford Reflections‘ and ‘Lost Unicorn‘ are on display. The main theme of this piece is reclamation. The mill lay derelict for years, long after I left …
“Hearty Rose”
Acrylic on canvas, polyptych – 70cm (max) x 70cm (max). UV fluorescent colour and glow in abundance! I careted this piece during Pride Month 2022. Sadly the glow isn’t very easy to photograph. Although all of the panels do glow, the darker panels remain quite dim. This was a fun piece to create, from the …
“Polygon”
Acrylic and UV on Canvas, 80cm x 80cm. 100 squares made from 400 triangles, which required 900 little strips of tape to make. The inner polygons are intentionally skewed to create illusory shapes and patterns. It works better from a distance, but up close it certainly did a number on my eyes! I’ve included a …
“Bombus Hypnorum”
Acrylic on canvas, 110x185cm* (has since been reduced in size) The Tree Bumblebee, or Bombus Hypnorum. Recreation of a macroscopic photo I took a number of years ago.
